The War Memorial in Wawne churchyard has been cleaned and restored. It is a private memorial, erected by the family of GW Brown, who died in World War I. However, with the permission of the Brown family, we have now added the name of a serviceman from Wawne who died in World War II. Sergeant Arthur Bromby, 1451959, 166 Squadron, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, died on 16 August, 1943, aged 21.
We will re-dedicate the War Memorial at a simple ceremony on Sunday 18 August, just before 11am, with a service in church afterwards. Coffee will be served in church from 10.30am.
