Sadly, on the night of Friday 27 September about 5 tons of lead was stolen from the roof of St Peter’s. Obviously, the police have been involved, especially as several churches were targeted around the same time. Fortunately, owing to the kindness of a Wawne resident, a company came out early on the Sunday morning with all the materials needed, and covered the roof in the pouring rain. We are now in discussions with the architect and diocese about permanent repairs – with stainless steel this time! We are very fortunate to have received a substantial legacy last year, specifically for the fabric of the church. We hope that this will help to pay for repairs.
If anyone saw anything suspicious that night, please do contact the vicar or another member of the church.
